I am
writing to share with you I won the Lake Weiss Triathlon
earlier this morning. It was a tough race, and I bettered my
course record set last year by over 1:30 in order to win. I
had a good swim, coming out of the water in first, but knew
that Morgan Ramey, also from Alabama, would be hot on my
heels on the bike. Since he started in the wave 2 minutes
behind mine, I knew I'd have to keep him out of sight in
order to have a chance at the win.
The hilly bike was a great way to separate the athletes, and
Morgan and I were way ahead by the time he neared the run.
At the .5 mile marker I looked back and saw that he was only
45 seconds down - in the virtual lead since he started 2
minutes down. At that point I turned on the afterburners and
clocked two sub 5:30 miles in order to put some distance on
him. At the end, I ended up with a 50 second win, a new
course record, and win number 32 of my career.
I was planning on going for a quick jog after the race, but
I was too destroyed, and decided to just hang out at the
awards ceremony and talk to the other finishers. Below are a
couple of my favorite photos.
